Playing a .mkv format video file
Tried to view a .mkv file using VLC media player.
The video picture did not move though I can hear the audio.
.mkv - a Matroska video format file. One can download codec or use VLC media player.
So I tried using Media Player Classic .
and CCCP playback packs.
It works... lol
Nice info

Defrag for Vista
Try downloading Power Defragmenter 2.0. This fast and easy-to-use software quickly sizes up the various files in your hard drive and reorganises the content. While it used to take several hours, the software took just 15 minutes to defrag my 250G hard drive. - DL 22 july 2008

Kohjnsha tools
To use on screen keyboard (by microsoft),
START>RUN>Type osk>OK
An onscreen keyboard will pop-up. Convenient if we use it as Tablet mode (becos ours is not XP tablet, we need to find ways of inputing thru touch screen).
I'm looking for handwriting recognition software. so far found Penoffice by Phatware. For pocket pc user, u must be familiar with the Caliigrapher software famous for its award winning handwriting recognition input. Same engine is included in Penoffice. Go download v2.6 for trial of 30days.
http://www.phatware.com/penoffice/index.html
Other good to have software is the PhatPad v4.2 (something like WIndows Journal i think)
_______________________________________________________
Essential software for Kohjinsha:
-(Free)On screen keyboard (thanks to tip in this forum): Put shortcut in task bar for quick access
- (Free)Daemon Tools Virtual CD driver to load .ISOs as CDROMs to install your software or playback those nasty multimedia titles that require a CDROM
daemon home page
- (Free)Evernote for taking ink notes and lots of other stuff, but must pay if you want handwriting and shape recognition to get Evernote Plus.
__________________________________________________
eg Irfanview and of cos the popular, powerful and yet free The GIMP.
__________________________________________________
I'm using penoffice, very good recognition, even natural curvy writing also can recognize. u can download the latest 2.6 version for a 30 day trial. pocket pc user should be familiar with its calligrapher recognition function.

To recover OS press F4 after the splash screen.
Read and accept the End User License agreement.
Select Protect/Recovery
Click on Phoenix Firstware Recover Pro
Click Pick Backup Point and Select the restore points if you have created one.
Select Factory Restore Point and click Restore if you have not created a restore point previously.
These are taken from the KJS user manual.
I've tried the recovery process before. It works fine.
Remember to restore only the OS drive; drive C. Like this, all your personal data in D are preserved. I did a factory restore and yes, its back to the original state when collected, but with D drive data in tact. no need to use the xp cd provided becos they have a factory image hard embeded liao. so save the need of having an external drive.

heres a simple photo hunt game to play on ur kjs. foc. only 5 level. but quite fun on touchscreen. anyone have any good game reccomendation which can put the touchscreen to good use pls post it here. thks!

The nice thing about owning a "slower" computer is that you learn to adapt. Don't expect to be playing Quake Wars or Supreme Commander on your Kohjinsha. There are however lots of free games that are very playable. You can find a shortlist of the best ones here.

1. You can have your wireless LAN enabed all the time through the BIOS setup screen. -> Press and hold F2 during your system boot-up and you'll see a green BIOS setup screen. Search through one of the settings and look for Wireless connection: enabled/disabled. By defaut, both Bluetooth and Wireless connections are disabled. Once enabled/disabled, these connections stay enabled/disabled all the time until you disable/enabled again through the BIOS setup or manually by pressing Fn + F4.

It is near to Chinatown, pls refer to their website http://www.doml.com.sg/contact.asp.No sure about others? I am quite happy with the martin field screen protector on my Dopod PDA phone, very lasting (though some minor scratches due to the keys in my pocket), hence decided to put one on my KJS.

Your touchscreen should be working all along. Try by moving your finger on the touchscreen, and the pointer on the screen moves. If the pointer does not move, the device drivers for this touchscreen are missing, installed incorrect or corrupted. Try uninstalling the PenMount progam by using Add/Remove Programs under the Control Panel OR under its program folder under the Start menu. The PenMount installation files (setup.exe) are in the C:\KJS\Driver\TouchScreen folder.
Maybe you will need to check if the PenMount 6000 USB right is working correctly in the Human Interface Devices (HID) under the Device Manager. If you see an exlamation mark at this PenMount 6000 USB, then the drivers are not working correctly.Regarding your question, the UMPC's touchscreen is similar to those on the PDAs.

Yup..ordered it from Conics.....pretty good people to deal with .....
____________________________________________________
For your info, the UMPC is not powerful enough to run Photoshop application.Meanwhile, you can use a less resource-intensive based image editing program like PhotoFiltre 6.2.7 (http://www.photofiltre.com). It is quite similar to Photoshop but available as freeware but not other versions listed on the website. I'm have it installed on my UMPC.

Currently, there are 2 cases that SA1 UMPC would be fitted perfectly.Bree Organizer (from Yahoo! Auctions or eBay SG Auctions) and Zeroshock III 10.4" case (available on internet. Try searching there.)

I using "Xilisoft DVD Ripper Platinum 4" to convert my DVD to mp4 and played on the media player classic. Very smooth.

Just went to Funan IT Mall. Was looking for a 12.1 - 13.3 inch Elecom Zeroshock 3 laptop sleeve. Went to challenger and was told it that it was sold out. Got one from South Asia Computer located at level 3. Price was $39At challenger it was sold for $42 (Non-member) , $37 (member)Conclusion, those who are not member of challenger could perhaps get a better deal for Zeroshock 3 laptop sleeve.

The file-name game
Extracted from DL 26 feb 2008
NameExif gives you the ability to select the digital camera files and as long as the images have EXIF ( Exchangeable Image File ) data, the program can renae using the time and date stamp of the image.
This gives a unique identifier and a beautifully sequenced set of hpotos that could very well help with organising a digital photo album or collection.
One can download NameExif from http://www.digicamsoft.com/softnamexif.html.
Others
- Rename4u by Kellysoftware - www.kellysoftware.com/software/Rename4u.asp
- BetterFileRename by Frank Reiff - www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/index.html
If one does not want to use specialised software, the direct method is accomplished in a few mouse clicks and keystrokes
1. Select a group of photos in Windows File Manager.
2. Choose rename and type in a name followed by a pair of parentheses surrounding the number. Example : holiday(1).jpg
3. After renaming the single file and selecting a group of images, ou will notice the rest of the files have inherited the new name and are sequentially numbered.

Web - photoshop - part 2
There are actually 3 types of colours that one will need to know in order to use Photoshop to its potential.
The first is called RGB colour. RGB stands for red, green, and blue. RGB color is created by objects reflecting elements of red, green, and blue light and, technically speaking, it is the colour that we see in everyday life. It is also the colour that your television and computer monitor use to project images and therefore it is the type of colour most often used in Photoshop images on the screen.
The second type of colour, CMYK colour, is composed of cyan, magenta, yellow and black. With colours created in CMYK, the cyan, magenta, yellow and black are added in different degrees to achieve the desired shades. These are the colours used in the printing process. The 4 ink colours are combined to produce the desired shade.
The third type of colour is grayscale. Many people call these images "black and white" although the graphic term is grayscale because the image is actually made up of 256 shades of gray.
CMYK colours can do a pretty good job of reproducing most RGB colours, but not all. That's why the banana that you print out will never look exactly the same as the banana that you hold in your hand.
In general, use images in RGB mode if your final product will be displayed on the Web or on a computer screen. However, if your final product will be printed, it's best to use CMYK mode in order to see your image accurately.
To convert image to CMYK : Image->Mode->CMYK
To convert image to RGB: Image->Mode->RGB
Colour Settings, Lesson 4-2
Paint Bucket Tool can set opacity and tolerance level.
Rotate - Edit->Transform Path->Rotate
Move - Move tool
Delete - Delete key
Scale - Edit->Transform Path->Scale
Skew - Edit->Transform Path->Skew
Distort - Edit->Transform Path->Distort
One can use the Skew or Distort command to make the selection look squished or elongated. The Skew command works along a single axis, the Distort command works independently of either axis.

iPod - general feeling
I got my first iPod device ever from my Singtel Broadband signup. Initially, I am pretty impressed by the device.
However, after several days of usage, I feel that it is not such a great device in terms of technology.
It does not have a camera. Ipod-touch is the first to have Wi-Fi. So why are other such hand-held devices not getting as much share of the market?
Now that iPod-touch has Wi-Fi, maybe the next thing they will add is to have a camera... then what is stopping it from become a phone.. or rather they already now have iPhone...
So I guess iPod won because of its marketing and its brand.....
